Event Details

Gardening enthusiasts will find plenty of inspiration, with demonstrations and presentations by wildflower and gardening experts throughout the day.

Vendors lining West Indiana Avenue will offer a host of nature- and garden-related items, including potted wildflowers and seeds, plants and planters, arts and crafts, botanical products, honey, decorative home and garden items and more. All-day children’s art activities will be hosted by the Museum of Art - Deland, and animals from the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens, Sanford, will be on hand from noon to 2 p.m.

At the Athens Theatre, 124 N. Florida Ave., festivalgoers can enjoy a variety of presentations from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Crowd favorite Tom MacCubbin, UF/IFAS extension agent emeritus and radio host of “Better Lawns and Gardens,” will take the stage at noon. Volusia County Extension Director Dennis Mudge will discuss invasive plants to avoid (10 a.m.) and Florida Wildflower Foundation Executive Director Lisa Roberts will introduce festivalgoers to Florida’s native wildflowers (11 a.m.). Jane Durocher of St. Johns Riverkeeper, will offer advice for making your yard river-friendly (1 p.m.), and Dr. Cindy Bennington of Stetson University will offer tips on attracting pollinators to your landscape with native wildflowers (2 p.m.).

Chess Park will serve as another hub of activity with presentations that include an introduction to community gardens (Joe Sewards, 9:30 a.m.), the art of composting (David Griffis, 10:30 a.m.), and creating a “pollinator pot” with wildflowers (Chris Waltz, 11:30 a.m.).
