The Story Behind the Lights:
(By Bill Butler, Member and Chairman Fantasy Lights)

The idea for the Flagler County Rotary Club’s annual light show began over 16 years ago while visiting our hometown in Indiana. My wife and I were visiting family in Evansville for the Christmas holiday, when we were told about a wonderful light display we should visit in a local park. When we arrived we were instructed to drive through a winding road. My two daughters, Brooke, age 17 and Tiffany, age 10, as well as my wife and I were fascinated by the large animated displays that lined the road. We continued to enjoy watching the video we had taken long after we returned home. Tiffany asked me if I could get a light display like this organized in Palm Coast? At the time, Palm Coast was a small community for what would require a massive effort.

A few years later, due to a heart condition, Tiffany became our angel in heaven in 2002. Holidays were very hard on us from that point. Trying to get over the grief of not having Tiffany here, I kept thinking about her excitement with the Christmas light display. In 2003, I joined the Flagler County Rotary Club and in 2005 had the opportunity to offer Tiffany’s idea as a possible fundraiser. The board granted approval to move forward and in 2006, The Fantasy Lights Program was born.

My wife and I purchased a display depicting an angel tossing stars from heaven and dedicated it to Tiffany’s inspiration and memory for this first event that at the time featured 16 displays.

Fantasy Lights event has grown to 49 displays and will continue to expand every year bringing more smiles to youngsters and grownups alike while helping with donations to raise more money for the Rotary’s charities, both locally and internationally.

Tiffany knew very well what it felt like to have medical problems and she always wished she
